Lucus is an interactive light-art installation exploring the relationship between contemporary art and sensor technology. The project was created in collaboration with a scientist - physicist Martin Jordanov. Lucus is one of four Latin words for "forest". Unlike the other three, lucus refers to a place that has a special mystical and sacred meaning. In Ancient Rome lucus was considered a cultural place where special rituals took place. Sometimes they include artificially created caves with sacred objects. The project explores the concept of the `sculpture` as a powerful object, which draws the viewer towards itself and so creates a special and magical place, just like a shining object does to a night butterfly. The usual elements of the forest are recreated by light objects which are either just synthetic forms or they incorporate a living object within themselves. The installationbecomes a scale model of a functioning ecosystem whose components entirely depend on each other and where the viewer is the missing piece.
